BlackBerry Protect is designed to help find your lost BlackBerry smartphone and keep the information on it secure.
In BlackBerry® 10, BlackBerry Protect is a feature built into the OS. For smartphones running on BlackBerry® 7 OS, BlackBerry® 6 OS and earlier versions of BlackBerry® Device Software, BlackBerry Protect is a free application you can download on your smartphone.
You’ve lost your smartphone. Why wonder who has access to your information? Simply log in to the BlackBerry Protect website and lock your device.
Pretty sure you’re not going to see it again? You can delete the information on your smartphone from the BlackBerry Protect website too.
Maybe you’ve just misplaced your smartphone. Lock and display a message on your smartphone Home screen for whoever may find it. Then locate it on a map and go get it.1 Or, if you think your smartphone is nearby, simply force it to ring at full volume.
Back it up (for smartphones with BlackBerry 7.1 OS or earlier)
Your contacts, text messages, calendar and bookmarks can be backed up wirelessly. It’s done automatically, and as often as you choose (daily, weekly or monthly).2
For BlackBerry® 10 devices, BlackBerry® Link is used to back up data.
Just bought a BlackBerry smartphone? BlackBerry Protect makes it easy to restore the device settings, contacts and calendar items you had backed up on your last one. Open BlackBerry Protect on your smartphone (it will either be an app or an option under Settings) and look for the Restore option or search the Help app for more details.
To restore a backup of a BlackBerry smartphone with BlackBerry 7.1 OS or earlier to your BlackBerry 10 smartphone, you’ll need OS software version 10.1 or later. To find your software version, swipe down from the top of the screen. Tap Settings > About, then choose OS from the Category drop-down menu.
